About Us

Connecting Volunteers with Impactful Opportunities

Volunteer Coalition is volunteer-led and is dedicated to championing volunteering and strengthening the connections between volunteers and organisations.

We believe volunteering plays a vital role in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities. Our work focuses on supporting people who want to give their time, while helping charities, community groups, and social organisations reach volunteers who care about their cause.

Our History

Volunteer Coalition grew out of frontline volunteering experience.

We began in 2020 as Borderline Support UK, a peer-support organisation working with people living with borderline personality disorder. From the start, volunteers were at the heart of our work. We brought together people from across the UK to provide consistent, compassionate support to those who needed it most.

By 2024, our organisation was supported by a team of over 100 dedicated volunteers, many of whom also played a vital role in the day-to-day running of the organisation. Through this work, we gained first-hand insight into the realities of volunteering — the commitment it requires, the impact it creates, and the challenges volunteers often face when adequate support systems are not in place.

This experience highlighted something fundamental: volunteers are not just a resource — they are essential, skilled contributors who need investment, structure, and support.

As our work evolved, we made the decision to ensure the people we supported continued to access appropriate care by signposting them to local mental health services, while we focused on addressing a wider, systemic issue we had come to understand deeply — how volunteering itself is supported.

In 2024, we took time to reflect, listen, and plan how our learning could be applied more broadly. That process led to the creation of Volunteer Coalition: an organisation dedicated to supporting, empowering, and strengthening volunteering across sectors, and promoting volunteering as a meaningful and worthwhile way to contribute to society.

Volunteer Coalition was born not from a change in values, but from an expansion of purpose.
