About Us

Connecting Volunteers with Impactful Opportunities

Volunteer Coalition is volunteer-led and is dedicated to championing volunteering and strengthening the connections between volunteers and organisations.

We believe volunteering plays a vital role in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities. Our work focuses on supporting people who want to give their time, while helping charities, community groups, and social organisations reach volunteers who care about their cause.

Our History

Volunteer Coalition grew out of frontline volunteering experience.

We began in 2020 as Borderline Support UK CIC, a peerโ€‘support organisation working with people living with borderline personality disorder and their families. From the start, volunteers were at the heart of our work โ€” bringing together people from across the UK to provide consistent, compassionate support.

By 2024, we were working with more than 100 dedicated volunteers, many of whom helped run the organisation day to day. Through that experience we saw the realities of volunteering up close: the time and energy it takes, the impact it creates, and the pressure volunteers can feel when the right support structures are not in place.

That period taught us something fundamental: volunteers are not just a resource. They are skilled contributors who deserve investment, clear roles and ongoing support if they are to thrive and stay involved.

As our work evolved, we made sure the people we supported could continue to access appropriate care by signposting them to local mental health and support services. At the same time, we turned our attention to a wider issue we had come to understand deeply โ€” how volunteering itself is supported across communities and sectors.

In 2024 we paused to reflect, listen and plan how our learning could be applied more broadly. That process led to Volunteer Coalition: a community interest company dedicated to supporting, empowering and strengthening volunteering, and promoting it as a meaningful, worthwhile way to contribute to society.

Volunteer Coalition is not a change in values, but an expansion of purpose. We carry forward our experience of running a national peerโ€‘support CIC and now focus it on making volunteering more supportive, sustainable and accessible for everyone involved.
