Opening Doors: Our Commitment to More Inclusive Volunteering
Many people who are disadvantaged, disabled, or from under-represented communities want to contribute to their communities but face significant barriers to volunteering. These include inflexible roles, inaccessible recruitment processes, unpaid expenses, lack of support, and volunteering cultures that do not reflect people’s lived realities.
Opening Doors to Volunteering is a project designed to remove these barriers by working with both individuals and organisations. The project will support people who would not normally volunteer to access meaningful, flexible opportunities, while also helping organisations redesign volunteering roles to be inclusive by default.
Rather than encouraging people to “fit into” existing systems, the project focuses on changing how volunteering is designed and supported. Volunteer Coalition will act as a bridge between communities and organisations, ensuring volunteering is accessible, welcoming, and sustainable for everyone involved.
